These are some drawings of fantasy town maps I did a while ago since I was interested in drawing them for stuff like DnD and my own stories. I found a tutorial online (Drawing a Town Map (for DnD) by WASD20) and did these three drawings based on what I learned from there, each with… Continue reading Fantasy Town Maps 1-3

Scotsman 02
This was the first stage: spray painting. I’ve not used spray paints before but it was the best way to get a rough idea of where the colours would be. It was also the easiest way to get a base colour for the largest areas without spending ages with a paintbrush and waiting for it… Continue reading Scotsman 02
Scotsman 01
I never expected life would require me to draw a life-sized Scotsman on a piece of cardboard, but here we are. Instead of the usual pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey party game, due to the theme of the event it was suggested to do a pin-the-sporran-on-the-scotsman instead. To start with I drew a draft (seen in the bottom left… Continue reading Scotsman 01
Charleston 05
The final outlines are done. I might use this as a template for drawing other characters dancing but for now this will be the animation.
Charleston 04
The inbetweens are added. I was amazed how smooth the animation flowed with the inbetweens- especially since they’re in such saturated, bright colours. Two frames had half of the drawing switched because the motion and flow looked better. I’ll admit I had to get one of my own shoes as reference so I could draw… Continue reading Charleston 04
Charleston 03
The breakdowns were the next part of this animation. The breakdown poses were in orange to be easily identified from the keyframes. The animation is definitely looking better but has a long way to go. Especially since the next run of breakdowns meant I had to break the joints for the movement to really work.… Continue reading Charleston 03

After I scanned the planning poses, I scaled them in Sketchbook and outlined them in blue. The green lines and ‘X’s were to help with scaling and the height change during the dance. It’s a short clip but there’s already a lot going on. The final animation will have a black outline but for now… Continue reading Charleston 02
Charleston 01
I wanted to learn how to dance the Charleston, so I watched a tutorial on how to do so. My skills aren’t the best so I decided to animate it instead… as if that’s any easier! These are the planning sketches I made using the tutorial video as reference. The scan quality may not be… Continue reading Charleston 01
Australian Animals
I decided to draw ten Australian animals. Thankfully I could remember ten off the top of my head, four of which are birds to give some variety. I didn’t like how my first drawing attempts turned out, because even though I was looking at photo references, the proportions were never quite right. So I did… Continue reading Australian Animals
Masquerade Dress 02
With the paper draft from before, and some pictures from Google, I finished drawing the draft of the dress. It was MUCH easier to get the shapes and designs right with references right there. It turned out better than I expected, and this is just the draft. A few notes The first change was that… Continue reading Masquerade Dress 02
