I’m part of a project for voicing a Hollow Knight mod, (which is still in development) but one of the things that happened is the director for the project played a game of Hollow Knight with another mod while many of us voice actors were watching. It was a lot of fun and one of the events inspired me to make a short animation about it.
The mod was replacing the Hollow Knight with Hornet, and every time Quill appeared everyone reacted like Hornet in the clip because these two characters don’t normally get along.
I do not own Hollow Knight or any of the characters, I just wanted to animate this for fun.
I’ll admit the animation for the jellyfish-like boss getting closer was rushed but I’m especially proud of the swinging movement of the weapons. I don’t often draw motion blur lines but I think it turned out pretty well here and the characters are recognisable. I didn’t want to colour it in because it would take more time and effort than I was prepared for but I just picked their signature colour for the outlines instead of just black.
