While I’ve drawn a lot of characters with red hair over time, I realised I hadn’t done even one in this series, so here it is. I also wanted to try and practice drawing more makeup, so this particular scanned drawing was chosen. Being framed and interrogated, this character is not having a good day.
(Yes, it’s the third one of the series drawn in profile. It’s helpful to use one of my previous drawings as a reference.)
Again, I went straight to full colour, as well as combining stuff I’d practiced individually in previous drawings: earring shine (07), hair shape and highlights (02), water effect (03) and lighting direction (14), as well as the colour blending I’d now practiced.
I’m really happy with how the shading turned out, and the uneven shading in the hair. I also added highlights in a lighter red because such hair will always be unruly. I also found a brush which does speckles so that means freckles.
The smudged mascara looks great (I mean realistic), but I’m especially happy with the tear effect, since it’s reminiscent of the droplet animation I did a while ago.
I’m also very happy with how the nose turned out given the usual rate of success I have.
